International groove genius and Grammy legend George Benson, returns this November with his band for three ultra cool Jazz, R&B and Pop infused concerts in Perth, Adelaide and Melbourne.
George is a distinctive guitarist with a silky smooth vocal style, melodic repertoire, sophisticated stage presence and an impeccable reputation as one of music's most engaging performers.
He has amassed ten Grammy Awards since becoming a global phenomenon with Breezin' (the first jazz album in history to soar to #1 on the Pop charts and achieve Platinum status) and last year, was recognized as a Jazz Master by the National Endowment for the Arts, America's highest Jazz accolade.
In 1976, Breezin' gave George one of three Grammy Awards, along with This Masquerade and Theme from Good King Bad. He received his first Vocal Grammy in 1978 for On Broadway and another three in 1980 for Give Me The Night, Off Broadway and Moody's Mood. These were followed by Being With You in 1983 and he shared honours with Al Jarreau for Mornin' and God Bless The Child in 2007.
Born into humble beginnings, George was rich with talent and a desire to entertain. He made his first public appearance at the age of eight and treasured the guitar carved by his step-father, from his mother's Hope chest.
By the time he was twenty-one, he was already established as a respected Jazz guitarist and in fine company with mentors Jack McDuff, Herbie Hancock and Wes Montgomery. An adventurous musician with an appreciation for dance floor rhythms as well as intellectual Jazz, George produced his first album as leader, The New Boss Guitar, filled with juicy, blues solos, funk and swing and played on the Miles Davis sessions in the late sixties.
He has since released over thirty five albums with classic instrumental and vocal interpretations including - Breezin, This Masquerade, On Broadway, Family Reunion, The Greatest Love of All, Give Me The Night, Turn Your Love Around, We're In This Love Together, Feel Like Makin' Love, Living in High Definition, In Your Eyes, Shiver, The Greatest Love of All and Lady Love Me (One More Time).
Recent collaborations include Mornin' and Givin' It Up with Al Jarreau and the dance floor hit You Can Do It Baby with New York DJs, Masters At Work.
Don't miss your sublime evening with George Benson and his band with our own Jazz, Swing and R&B royalty.
